Brief Description:

Last night's new capstrip worked out very well. My measurements were pretty much right on the money. The new strip overlapped one existing strip only by less than 1/8 inch, and that was easily sanded flush. At the other end, the new strip was about 1/32 inch low compared to the intersecting capstrip, but that's within the gap filling ability of the adhesive, so no worries there.

Tonight I removed the previously installed 1/4 inch fuel vent line, which I will replace to the new length with a 3/8 inch line. I also removed the fuel cap filler neck, and will fill the opening later. Next, I began cutting new half round holes in the BL 97 rib, to allow for fuel and air flow between the new bay and the former end fuel bay.

By the way, I removed the fuel filler neck by first cutting the 3 bid about 1/8 inch outside the neck flange, then heating the overlapping bid, which came off remarkably easily, as did the neck itself, which was bonded to the upper skin with Hysol. This worked almost too easily, and reinforces the admonition to paint the airplane mainly white.
