Brief Description: Left Aileron
|
|
Today, I installed the aileron on the wing and drilled the center hinge in place per the plans. Then, I worked to fabricate and install the cover on the center hinge section. In the afternoon, I worked on the aileron spade skin/counterweight install. The skin is straightforward, but the counterweight poses a few challenges. On the first aileron, I learned to install the counterweight before riveting the bottom of the skin per the plans. The rivet tails got in the way and I had to drill them out. In addition to the 3/16 inch rivets in the bottom, I also drilled the first two #30 holes in the spade skin/ribs into the counterweight as well. So, it is held in securely on all corners plus the larger 3/16 inch rivets on the bottom. In addition, I covered the counterweight with proseal before installing the skin for the last time. A bit of riveting left, then clean up the rivet heads on the aileron, then install the inspection covers and it will be complete.
