Brief Description: Wing and Tank Skin Installation
Today, I cut off the bad mandrels on the RV-1414 rivets with a dremel cut off wheel. I also put on a grinding burr and smoothed all the rivets on the bottom side where the mandrels left a rough spot. Then, I enlisted the help of a worker I saw repairing the neighbors roof to help turn the wing over. He was amazed at what he saw in the shop -- that anyone would even consider building an airplane. After some general clean up, I primed the stringers and the wing skin, then set it on for the final time. It was difficult to manuever the skin under the tank skin, but with a bit of effort and leveraging one hole at the bottom spar, it worked out well. I currently have it cleco'd, and won't rivet the skin on until I've completed the pressure check of the tank. I will however, begin to finish riveting the remaining portion of the leading edge and the leading edge extension.
