Brief Description:  Engine Mount Installation

Wow -- I never realized installing the Dynafocal Mounts would be so difficult. My friend Dave came over to help. First, we had to install the mounting ears on the O-540. One problem, the lower mounts had pins but no recess in the engine block. A quick call to Rhonda Barrett acknowledged all we had to do was pull the pins out on the bottom. Once we had those installed and torqued, We began work on the Dynafocal mounts. Nothing lined up! We used bar clamps and web straps to pull things into position. At first, we installed the upper ones first but then realized we couldn't get the bottom ones in. So, we backed them out and installed the bottom ones first, and then began working on the top ones. I purchased drift pins from Cleveland Aircraft however, you really need to taper the end of your bolts to work with them. Otherwise the minute the drift pin goes between the engine mount and the dynafocal mount everything pops loose. The drift pins have a recss on the back and if you grind the tip of your bolt a bit, it will slide right through. Dave had to leave mid afternoon and we had the two bottom ones and the upper right one in place. The upper left tomorrow am -- I hope!
