Brief Description:  Flight Controls

Today, I worked on routing the rudder/elevator cables to the rear. Several challenges. The 1/2" holes drilled through the carrythroughs at Staition 4-8 were very close to the fore/aft shear webs. I used a nylon bushing in each to guide the rudder cables, filing one side down slightly to allow them to fit tight against the shear webs.

Second, I installed RG-1 cable guides on Bulkhead D. The two elevator cables were too close to each other so I made up a small piece of channel, riveted it to the bulkhead, and installed the two elevator cable guides offset from each other. I plan to use a rub plate made from delrin at Bulhead E for the elevator cables.

For the Rudder Cables, I added a left over piece of bulkhead channel with RG-1 cable guides to support them where they move up toward the tail of the aircraft.

Next, I worked on the #1 side of the tail to cut the groove for the rudder cable to exit the fuselage. I found the hole location per the manual was too high, and had to make the overall groove larger than I wanted. I will add a stiffener with a homemade cable cover on top.

Finally, I made up the cable bushing end of one rudder cable.
