Brief Description: Began Ailerons

Today, I began work on both ailerons. I pulled the plastic off of the spars and nose ribs, and then prep'd the edges, scuffed the spars, and cleaned everything up. Then, I layed out the nose ribs in the right order (somewhat confusing as the flanges go both ways depending on location). I marked and trimmed the doublers per the plans, match drilled them to #30 as well as the 1/2" bushing hole, and then worked to drill the bushings out (#40 - #30 - countersink). As a note, on the SR 2500 plans there are four holes per bushing. On the SR 3500 there are five holes per the same bushing. I assume the difference is due to the larger loads on the bigger aileron, but I went ahead and drilled them for five holes anyway. I drilled a 1/2" hole in a piece of plywood, inverted the bushings, and drilled to #30 on the drill press. I countersunk them as you can see in picture #3 in the same piece of plywood, but with a countersink cage/bit.
All in all, a very productive day. The learning curve is really kicking in.
