Brief Description:  Sun-N-Fun Purchases

My goal at Sun-N-Fun was to visit with vendors and see what I had been reading about. My goals are Day/Night VFR and I am working to keep my panel smart, simple, and economical. It's easy to get carried away with all the beautiful systems out there today.

In general, I've decided on a concept that uses a PFD (Tru-Trak GP is a front runner), a moving map EFB such as Flight Essentials, the NAVWORX ADSB UAT, and a GRT EIS (ACS has a Lycoming 6 cylinder version with probes for $899). This will provide me everything I need for Day/Night VFR at reasonable cost with little to no subscription fees. I will gamble that eventually, the FAA will waive the transponder requirement for UAT equipped aircraft. Consequently, I purchased a used KT-76A from Wentworth at Sun-N-Fun. In addition, I purchased a used TKM MK-11 Comm transceiver off the Vans Aircraft Forum.

I plan to purchase a panel mount display from one of the automotive suppliers, and power it with an automotive micro computer (solid state drive) for the flight essentials package.
