The air box fluid drain needed to be tested thoroughly to ensure proper flow. The filter I had bought to install inside the box didn't flow hardly at all, so I'll be getting some SS mesh to solve that and install it just like the fuel tank mesh. I was able to find a nipple that allowed sufficient fluid flow and seeing it in action, draining out the scoop was really cool :)
Let's get this engine on! I wanted to make life easier by organizing the wires as much as possble before closing in on the firewall, so I hung the engine 2 feet away and connected as much as I could. It really helped! I then took a deep break and went to install the engine. Now...well, the guy who welded my engine mount did NOT get the mount pins aligned well. In fact as much as 1/4" off! So after 3 hours of trying this and that, I finally decided to install the top two mount points and then lift the engine and airplane off the ground with the hoist in order to pull the mount into alignment. This works great but 3 hrs to figure it out was no fun. Now for safety, I know there is a LOT of rubber on those mounts and over time they will give up before steel does as was the case with the last mount. I'll live with it. But this engine is ON!
So after bolting her up, I grabbed the top cowl just to see how much work is cut out for me and laughed when I saw that it almost fit as it was. There will be minimal changes to get it to work and that is great news!
Tomorrow's agenda is combing the wires, running them all and getting measurments for a handful of new hoses to order. Man I'm glad I'm not sanding primer...yet.
