Brief Description:  Air box emergency air flap

In the rare and unfortunate event that FOD or an animal were to completely block the air intake for the engine, a relief flap must open and allow a source of air that is at least sufficient for safe flight until you can land the airplane. Being inspired by James Redmon on this one, I designed a small flap that was riveted to the box on one side and held shut on the other using rare earth magnets. The plate I used on the back was a simple 2 ply carbon layup bonded to the cutout that I had removed. The rivet job was a real hack as I first tried to use nutplates for screws instead of rivets. I eventually decided to just make it permanenet and used 3 rivets to do so. The flap works great but I'll need to test it with the engine running in order to ensure it will work in a real life emergency. Those magnets are pretty strong. One step closer to install on the firewall!
