Ignoring UL Power's advise has been the best thing this engine has ever seen. Following the ECI Manual for break in has been what this engine and airplane has needed from day 1!!!!
So now that I've got 6 hrs on the engine and am still running the Phillips XC 20w50 oil, Oil temps have never been better until today...they got even BETTER. 2 years ago or so I bought this honeycomb stuff from www.saxonpc.com for like $9. I was reading on the Vans forum that it was working miracles for the LYC engine intakes and CHT's when used inside the throttle bodies. Well, I thought I'd give it a try during my long 1.6hr breakin flight today and WOW, Oil temps are now down to 213 in cruise at WOT! I've never had temps this low and I can say the Honeycomb is a winner! I'm now tempted to add the honeycomb to my intake and CHT inlets as well!
What the honeycomb does, is it straightens out the air coming into the intake that would otherwise be turbulent.
I'd also like to mention that the oil consumption has gone down considerably since the first breakin flight and I hope to see it be next to nothing by hour 10. I can't believe this engine is finally running so well. Next major task will be optimizing the inlets and air intake with honeycomb as well. Fun stuff!
