Robert and I talked about my canopy design for a while and he mentioned to me that my oversized super sexy canopy will generate almost 400lbs of up thrust! 400 lbs!!!!!!!!!!! He went on to say that trusting 2 small pin latches to hold that 400lbs is really risky and that he'd REALLY prefer 4 latch points. Well the ENTIRE REASON I re-designed the canopy was to get rid of passenger locking hardware. He suggested that I send him pictures and discuss it with him at RR this next weekend. IF he says that the canopy design will fail and is dangerous then it will mean completely redesigning it which will mean this bird will be grounded for another few months right into the coldest part of the winter. Obviously this news is a HUGE blow as I've already started the process of airworthiness with my DAR. HOWEVER, the jury is out on this issue right now until Robert gets to really inspect my design in detail. In prep, I'm going to start drawing out the re-design and hopefully find a simple solution, but those odds are not in my favor and I trust Roberts expertise.
To Date, today has been the most dissapointing so far. Uneven wings and a canopy that could be deadly. The good news is that ANYTHING is fixable and I'm not going give up after 2.5 years and 3000 plus hours. That is NOT an option. This bird will fly.
