Brief Description:  "you win some you lose some"

You win some, you lose some. Well, that saying couldn't be more true today. Many many months ago I measured the aileron on the this left wing and found it to be cut the wrong size by almost a whole inch! Horrible mistake by the previous builder. I dreaded the idea of re-building the aileron and have cringed when thinking about it for the last year. So now I begin working on the left wing and it started with a thorough cleaning of the shop for a fresh clean environment to tackle the task once more.
After taking measurments on the wing I just completed and it's aileron dimensions, I noticed that it was actually a little larger than what the plans called for in a VERY good way. Longer chord length which means an improved roll rate. Now if the left wing had been built exactly per plans, the plans aileron would still be a little smaller and would still need to be re-built in order to match the other. This improved roll rate completely washes my negative feelings toward re-building the aileron. So there it was, WAY off. Check out picture 3 to see how bad this other guy was at using a ruler. LOL. pathetic.
Anyway, the matching aileron cutout was made with the fabulous Fein Tool, the trailing edge spar totally removed, and replaced per plans other than the 1 ply UNI that I started it with just like the other wing. (UNI provides better stiffness where there have been issues in the past with other builders using only BID)
Tomorrow the spar will be trimmed and construction on the new aileron will begin....unless I get the urge to start rudder work :) Fickle Pickle
