Brief Description:  A wee bit more epoxy, and Urethane begins

After spending the first part of the day going over the whole topside with 320 grit wet sanding, I blew through primer in a few areas where it was pretty thin. This led me to sneak into the kitchen and steal my wifes Spatula! lol. I told her to add a new one to the list of things to buy. I definitely got a look.... BUT I was able to scrape out a whopping half-quart worth of mixed white epoxy primer that I thought was all used up! This was needed to cover up all the bare spots and still had enough left over to use on the cowls if the new white urethane primer doesn't match well. Which leads me to the next thing that happened today.
So after 2-3 coats of white epoxy primer were sprayed out onto the bare spots, I decided to use the last part of my day to try out the new Kirker Perfect Prime. This was the "buff" color, which basically mixed like and looked just like pancake batter. Identical I tell ya. I was worried my gun wouldn't shoot it, or that I would at least have to change to a larger tip.
The instructions on the Perfect Prime say to shoot 2 medium wet coats with a 15 minute flash between coats. So I decided to mix up just under 1/2 qt, thinking it would be enough but I was wrong! This stuff required me to open the needle 4 times more than when I shoot epoxy and it came out THICK. In fact I was only able to get 1 wet coat on the top cowling with all that mixed primer. It didn't even lay out flat in most areas, so next time I'll be reducing it and just shooting several coats to avoid the lumpy orange peel. But I must say WOW, if this stuff sands as ez as it is advertized, then it has just revolutionized the way I finish composites. Tomorrow will tell!
