After sanding down the micro on the inside of the cowling, I was hunting for some regular black paint for cosmetic reasons and found I still had some Header paint left over in black. hmmm, I've got an idea :) Instead of going straight to heat shielding, why not try coating the inside of the cowl with ceramic paint? Couldn't hurt. 1 thick coat all over and I headed to the airport. I installed the cowl to check the clearances on the updated cowl changes and found I did an excellent job. the cowl no longer contacts the pipes. I decided to run my brake test with the cowl on to see if I was still getting any heat damage and found none! nice, I may be able to use this paint on the top cowling as well and consider it a minor cure for the heat issue. A good long flight on a hot day should give more conclusive results. So far, I'm happy. I then brought the cowl home and sprayed 3 coats of paint all over. The finish isn't perfect, but this is just a cosmetic coat while, again, I'm testing the durability of this paint. Time to fly!
