A lot of good things come from what we think are bad...and that's always good news. Good news like finding that my Right elevator has never been properly balanced and even at 190kts IAS I haven't had any flutter. After wrapping both elevators on a few bucks worth of wrap and about 3 hrs of my time, I will now consider the first wrap my learning curve. I was able to hone in on my wrapping skills for the next job. SO here's the real good news. The contour of my elevators was futher off than I realized, and being that my Right elevator wasn't balanced, I decided to strip both elevators and get it perfect. Perfect contour, and within balance. This was also a great time to weigh the vinyl for a specific weight of wrap needed to cover each elevator for future reference when comparing to paint. It came to 2.3oz per elevator. Not bad! Even aggressive sanding on the right one hasn't shown a great balance so I'm going to sand as much as possible before adding micro and may even add some lead if I have to. Good news is that both elevators are far below their max weight limits so I have some options. I'm just hoping this bird is ready before the weekend after next when family will be in town demanding rides! :)
