Brief Description:  Fun stuff

It's SO cool when the "work" to be done is only fun. Here I am investigating the possibility of "wrapping" my airplane vs. Paint. I've been researching a lot and right now, the quality of Vinyl is really good compared to a few years ago. Wrapping cars is sweeping the nation and becoming a HUGE fad due to several benefits that are carrying over into aviation as well.
A long conversation with the owner of www.aircraftwraps.com was eye opening when he gave me the top 4 reasons to wrap, being;
1. Vinyl will be 70% lighter than paint!
2. His wrap jobs are from $7500-$10,500 depending on design complexity and color
3. He guarantees them to last the life of the airframe for a hangared aircraft
4. They are tested to speeds exceeding 350mph!
I've also been seeing thousands of auto shops countrywide that has a crew of guys do a car in 1 day. The real deal maker for me is that using the BEST 3m vinyl out there will cost me under $3000 in supplies if I opt to do it myself. This also means that even if I completely screw up the first wrap, I can do it all over again and STILL be more cost affective than hiring a company to do it or considering paint. Not to mention, 5-10 years from now, when I want a new look it will be as simple as peeling it off, and wrapping it again. NO chemicals, no mess, no nothin. I've ordered some samples that I will be testing under UV light for surface temps. It's also said that the temps are lower than the same color in paint and that DARK grey only hits 135 degrees in the FL sun!
