Brief Description:  Fuselage prep and skim

Well Last night I'd done a lot of prep work for skimming the fuselage but after removing the canopy I saw some things I missed. Most importantly I needed to add a small vent line that exits the back of the turtle deck. This was called out by Rutan in case the 2 vent lines became blocked in flight from Ice or bugs or whatever. I drilled one of the tank vent lines through while using a vacuum next to the drill bit. I really felt like a dentist for the first time! I then floxed a short piece of nylaflo into the hole and onto the turtle deck. After cure I added filler on top of the assembly and shaped it to resemble a pressure recovery airfoil for the lowest possible drag. I also added filler to other various places, cleaned the whole fuse with Acetone and prepped my table for Skim!
After applying the first layer of skim coat I noticed that the only areas that had orange peel or bubbles were the places that had very little resin so I've concluded that keeping it thick is the way to go!
After this skim coat had cured enough to be tack free, I was able to see several low spots due to the light reflections and went ahead and added filler to those spots. I also made sure to sand them down mid-cure with 36 grit so that when I come back to contour tomorrow, it will be much easier to sand down.
I will say the contouring I did with the filler is the best I've done yet as the shape is almost ready for primer as is :) BUT Mr. perfectionist is back in town and I'm sure he will want a say in things. :)
