Brief Description:  Skimming ahead of schedule.

I worked at lightning speed today, sanding shaping and contouring the topside of the canard. I decided to KEEP the tips per plans but this meant re-shaping the left tip once again. Using the DA sander I was able to move quickly and match the 2 tips quite nicely. Both needed work in order to match. I finally got to the stage that the canard filler work was becoming very nit-picky so I took that as a green light for the fabulous SKIM COAT. Man what a pump up! I love the way the light shines off the surface of a skim coat because it reveals all those hidden low spots that I'd have to hunt for, for days to find. The west systems didn't set up quick enough for a second coat but that's ok as I'd like to hit those obvious pits before I go for the second round of skim.
After Skimming the canard I got the bug and I had to start prepping everything else for skim as well. I had a little left over resin from the canard so I took off the Nose hatch, prepped it and skimmed it. I then went over the fuselage and gave it one last run of spot filler, removed the tape from the fuel tank caps and flushed them up. I then cleaned up the fuselage with soap and water and by morning I should be able to remove the canopy and start skimming the fuselage. WAY ahead of schedule for the fuselage, BUT, with the long gaps I have between skim coats, I'll need to bounce between a couple different projects to keep from standing around waiting for the resin to set up. LOVE that shiny surface!
