Brief Description:  Entire wing skimmed and trimmed

Today was a huge success. almost 12 hours of work means primer is getting closer. I sanded down the topside skim coat (4) to see if a 5th was going to be needed. I found that 4 was sufficient for contour so I blocked out the whole wing and there's only about 5% of the skimcoats left on the wing now. This is the goal. I also did odds and ends work like micro around edges for even gaps and flush fit.
The winglet however was "interesting." visually it looked ready for skim but running my hand over itwas a whole different conclusion. By this time I was pretty tired of sanding to I wanted a quicker tell-all. I decided to spray paint the winglet with a left over can of walnut rustoleum for use as a guide coat. As soon as the paint dried it was obvious that skim coating wasn't going to cut it. Too many low spots. In hindsight I won't be spray painting anything again because it took a LOT of acetone to get it off and was wastefull. In the future I will just assume it needs filler and go to town on it Z-grip style :) after filler and contour the winglet was ready for skim. This time I decided to skip the roller and squeegee and go straight to applying it with a foam brush. Big surprise! The Skim went on nice and thick without lines and without orange peel. I'd say on smaller parts, this is the way to go. I'm thinking I won't even need anymore coats :D
