I removed the canard, sanded all the piled up filler, and re-installed the canard and am VERY happy with the minimal gap that is now present. Now the airplane, from canopy to nose all has less than 1/8" gap that 1/4" weather seal will close up. In Fact, some spots like the nose hatch has barely 1/16", so I have to use even thinner seal stripping :) I decided to go ahead and mount the nose door and canard and begin adding filler. Now if I could do this step again I would have piled up the filler on each part BEFORE installing instead of after. Because I didn't do this, I had to spend a good hour with a razor blade and sand paper trying separate each part. No fun. Now I have to do what I should have done in the first place. I will add a second round of filler individually, install and contour to shape. Sounds simple, but I don't even have to go to the gym anymore with this sanding business :)
