I decided to go with the trusty ol threaded brass inserts to install the panel cover and it worked out pretty good. Not much material on the cover to countersink so it meant larger than normal holes but the screws work great and everything is virtually flush. I will be finishing it's paint work and adding a thin strip of weather stripping on the underside of the cover to give it a nice uniform seal all the way around :) Very happy.
