Brief Description:  The decision was made and the money was spent

3 days ago Garmin released what to me was a nuclear bomb to my avionics dilemma. The GTR200 radio/intercom. One of my least favorite things in busy airspace is being rattled off radio frequencies by ATC like I'm at an auction. I don't know why but for some reason FLYING the airplane seems like a big enough task for any safe pilot. Until now that meant having to not only listen, write down, and repeat vital info but all while still flying. DUH, ok most people get that. HOWEVER, now the Garmin Radio does all the work for you. Based on your location, Garmin will send all the frequencies to the radio of the nearby airports so selecting the right frequency is as simple as scrolling through the list of pre-selected frequencies which are conveniently labeled for you. This was obviously a big deal for me as I like keeping my eyes outside the cockpit.
The #2 seller for me was the G3X screen is narrow enough to add a full standard size radio stack to the left where my left hand will be doing all the work. Plus, as soon as I'm IFR ready it will be a simple cutout in the panel to go IFR unlike the others. The other EFIS screens would require a whole new panel which means downtime and cash.
Rumor has it that Garmin is also venturing to give it's experiemental customers FREE annual updates for navigation and map software. THIS sealed the deal.
