Brief Description:  Prep for canopy mounting

It always amazes me how long something can take when you want to make it right. Taping off all but roughly .5" around the canopy per plans on the inside and out then removing the discoat was a task. After getting all the discoat off I took 220 grit and a red scotchbrite pad and prepped the areas for foam and glassing while making sure to tackle all rough areas with the sandpaper to prevent future cracks from developing. Next I cut out the temporary wood blocks that hold the canopy in position and epoxied them to the upper longerons per plans. I found that after the epoxy sets up it still isn't hard enough to work with but adding a little thin CA glue did the trick for a quicker bond. Of course I HATE Bondo so I wasn't willing to use it :) I did however modify the aft blocks to give the passenger more headroom. I added 4" of padding to the plans seat thickness back there for my 5'4" wife, but that put her high up enough that the plans canopy would be resting on her head. Therefore like others before me I raised it up a little over an inch by cutting blocks taller than plans. nuff said. Now I just need to let the wife sit back there while I fine tune the canopy height. I will also be modifying the firewall height to accommodate. No big deal since I'll be making my own Cowling anyways :)))) SMOOOOTH transitions.....
