I cannot remember the last time I had so much fun in the garage during the day that I went back in after dinner to keep going. It gave me a solid 8 hour work day and may have the engine hung tomorrow! I started by using 3M77 adhesive spray to attach the fiberfrax to the SS sheets. I then carefully cut out all the fiberfrax from each whole and around the edges. I then sanded the edges of the fiberfrax to keep it from overhanging the SS when installed. It looked ugly when done but quite fireproof! I then installed the spar sheets first with rivets, then the center section and praise GOD the ugly fiberglass was gone! About time :) Next I slowly started running wires and painting the last of the brackets so everything matched. I even got to paint the air box hatch cover finally. A lot of small details went on today, but it's late so I'll leave it at that. This birdy will have some weight on her butt tomorrow :)
Note: So after talking to several people and considering the added time, cost, and long term care of a polished SS firewall, I opted to stay with 800 grit swirls. During install I even managed to scratch the SS on several occasions that would have made me pull my hair out, had it been polished. Instead, a quick massage using 800 grit and it was as if it never happened. I'd say this was the "wise" choice. I'm happy :)
