Brief Description:  New engine + W&B is finished

The new 520iS is said to be 238lbs installed. The former 390iS was 220lbs. The difference is only 18lbs, however several modifications were done to the aircraft during the engine swap that surely added a few pounds to the sweetheart :) Noteably the cowling got a LOT heavier and the plan all along was only to use her as a mold for an all new Carbon Fiber cowling. She weighed in at almost 22lbs! What a pig! That's what fiberglass and filler does to a cowling :) Add to that new electric heaters inside the cabin, carpet in the back, filler work all over, and white primer all over and she gained 10lbs of extra weight. So all in, the new empty weight as she curently sits is 976lbs with oil. One of the lightest if not THEE lightest 200hp long ez's ever built. Add to that, the W&B data came back showing that within structural limits and a gross weight of 1600lbs, this airplane is virtually impossible to operate outside of it's CG Range. What a machine :)
