Brief Description:  25hr maintenance is complete

The 25hr maintenance is finished including a test flight trying out the new 6 series Bosch spark plugs. The stock plugs are the FR5DTC series which work ok, BUT tend to foul easily when CHT's are under 300deg. I tend to run cooler CHT's that are about 275 in cruise and leave my plugs black after a few hours. This led me to install 4 of the hotter FR6DTC plugs to see if I could keep a cleaner plug and it worked just as planned. In Photo #2 you will see the new hotter plug on the left and the standard plug on the right after a 30 minute flight. The difference is clear and no signs of detonation or pre-ignition were found. One more trick added to the books :)
The other task I completed was the removal of the stock "leaky" intake runners. I replaced these leaky runners with 3" Silicone couplers costing me a total of $19. The reason behind the leak is a poor design. UL uses a set of VERY thin o-rings to create a seal, and 2 of my 6 orings had split. The new couplers all installed easily and allowed me to re-align the intake manifold which now lines up even better with the air filter box exit ducting. These new tubes are clamped down air-tight using 12, SS 1-3/4" clamps. Everything was a perfect fit and the leaks are no more. This concluded the 25hr maintenance. See you again at 50 for the next big one :)
