An aluminum template is placed on the end of the axle a fixed distance from the threaded end. A prick then center punch marks the drill location. A bushing is inserted in each hole with a bolt going across the bushings to maintain alignment. Small tack welds are added. The bolt is them removed and finish welding is done.
