Brief Description:  Making A Work Island

In Tony Bingelis's book Sportplane Builder on page 40 he suggests a work island for mounting a bench grinder, vice and pillar drill. Other builders have produced them but I have not seen any plans so Simon and I used the same build principle as the EAA 1000 workbench , see previous log entry.

I have sketched the plan we used and it is available at my website

The castors are available from Screwfix and cost more than twice the wood but once locked the island is very solid.

There is a 4-way electric plug extension socket with about 15 cable screwd on at the back so there are two spare plugs.

Post Note 2010. I cannot tell you how brilliant this item has been. As the project develops the space reduces in the garage and yet you can rotate it for each item and even take it outside when the weather s good. Cannot recommend it enough.
