I bought a cheap compressor to start with and that packed up after 18 months - basically because the pistons corroded due to high moisture - the drain blocked and I didn't pick it until late in the day! It also use to get very hot.
I then bought the Axminster AW30HP 3hp Direct Driven compressor and it is brilliant. It takes hardly anytime to charge and is very quiet and cool. Some have had problems with it tripping the fuse on start up but I always start with the drain open - so no load and no problems.
