Brief Description:  P-Mags for Lycomings

When I bought my engine from Aero Sport Power I asked them to fit dual P-mags. I made the spark plug harness from the supplied kit - no problems. I wired up the P-Mags - no problems.

I set up the timing and here is where I made a mistake. The P-Mag instructions in some sections are Lycoming specific but when it comes to timimg they are not and they could. Let me explain.

In hindsight it is my fault for not really persuing the Note 3 on page 14 of the manual (LC114.09) as when I set the timimg up initially with TC on the FRONT of the gear ring to the top split of the case she wouldn't start. After sleeping on it and doing some research and set up the timing correctly with TC on the REAR of the gear ring my engine fired up on the first blade.

So to stop you making the same mistake I implore you to read that research - namely Lycoming SI1437. It is a self evident paper but I have added photos from my installation to assist. The biggest tip is pulling the top plugs and placing your thumb over #1 and you soon know when you've reached/reaching TDC!
