Brief Description: Oil Cooler 2 - Shutter Binding and Brace
BINDING
Whilst fitting the Oil Cooler I found that as I tightened the bolts the shutter started to bind.
I remember reading on VAF forum that someone had used AN960-10L washers between the oil cooler flange and the shutter. I did a dry run and they worked great but left a slight gap between the shutter and the oil cooler flange. So I sued a thin layer of High Temp RTV to seal the gap (the grey stuff is cleared to 750F).
BRACE
I read on VAF forum about bracing the oil cooler. I did find that without the brace the inboard section of the oil cooler moved a bit too much for my liking. As the outbord section of the cooler is braced to the baffle that is attached to the #4 cylinder I opted to brace the top bolt of the inboard section of the cooler to the top screw in the valve cover using some 1/8" x 1/2" that was spare . In order to allow the spark plug to be removed the valve cover screw head is on the inside. With the brace fitted the oil cooler is very solid.
