Brief Description:  Cowl 19 - Heat Shield

I read an article in RVAtor recommending lining the bottom cowl with a heat protector to reflect heat and to prevent oil/fuel soaking into the honey comb fibreglass.

Prepared inside surface as described here

Thinned some epoxy resin (10 g Hardener 50g Resin ) with acetone (MEK) 50:50 and applied it using a foam roller (buy cheap ones as you will be discarding them).

After curing I wiped the inside with Iso-Propyl Alcohol and after drying applied the Van's Heat Protector (EA EXHST/COWL SHIELD - 4 feet) - you can't get all the wrinkles out but no ones going to see it anyway!

I sealed the edges with some more thinned epoxy when I did the top cowl (no shield just thinned epoxy).

I noticed when I fitted the lower cowl that one of the exhaust pipes ex the the Heat Muff comes VERY close to the cowl. So I will add a photo when I have RTV'd some thin aluminium at that location. Post Note 2013 No need for aluminium heat shield as the Heat Protector works just fine.
