Brief Description:  Cowl 15 - Hinge Pin Access

You may recall in Cowl 1 I said I was going to use the access cover idea from RVAtor for the top pins and I have to say it works an absolute treat in the workshop - inserting and removing the pins is a breeze.

Two differences. One #8 screws seemed a bit big - the wing tips are held on with #6 so I used that size and two I used a scrap peice of aluminium for the cover as my dremmel cutting was not quite good enough to use the cut out fibreglass.

Typical me I didn't think far enough through the idea and so instead of using lug nutplates - I had already drilled the hinge/cowl - another project DOH! - I had to use minature nutplates MK1000-06 (MS21069-L06) from LAS but they seem to be fine.

All that is left to do is bond some foam or balsa wood to the underside of the cover to prevent the pins moving inboard (unlikely but possible) I may or may not add the tongue shown in the article - at the moment it seems fine.

A definite project success.

Post Note 2015 - After 250 hours I can honestly say this is a brilliant option. It makes removing and replacing the upper cowl a breeze. It should be standard
