I elected to go for the Option 2 method on page 6-16 of the manual and use balsa wood. Very easy to shape and I bonded it to the tip with a fillet on the inside ready for reinforcement strips.
One tip is to wet out the strips (1" and 2" tape in my case) inside polythene sheet - I used a Tesco freezer bag with the sides trimmed off. Once wetted out trim the bag to the tapes and peel off one side. Apply the middle of the tape into the corner of the join, manoeuvre with a popsicle stick and remove the top layer of polythene. Then press into position with the brush used to wet out the area to be reinforced. I bought the rotary cutter (video tip) from a local fabric shop and trimming is a doddle.
