Brief Description:  75 Hour Service - Brake Pads

I had an episode a while back of overheating brakes and after researching the Vans Forum I came to the conclusion that it was a pedal configuration issue. Basically in the normal relaxed position of my foot I was applying brake!

I moved the pedal assembly forward one notch and I now consciously have my heel on the bottom bar (pivot) and my foot angled back - NOT natural. I now see why some have modified the pedals. The difference was immediate and I need far less RPM to taxy and I suspect my take off distances are shorter!

During my 25 hour service whilst checking the tyre pressures I noticed the left pad was worn below limits (12 months and 77 hours - not good). For those doing thier brake pads for the first time like I was this is how I did it.

Tools: #30 drill, 1/8" rivet punch, hammer, hand squeezer, bench drill (electric would do), scrap bit of wood with step drill hole near edge and one in middle - all these left over from the project PLUS Avery #4625 brake pad rivet set and 066-10600 (pads) and 105-00200 (Rapco Rivets).

Sequence:
Drill about 1/8" down though shop head (drill centres nicely) until shop hed rotates
Support pad over stepdrill hole in wood and punch out rivet
Clean and add new pad with rivets in outboard holes note different size rivets for inboard and outboard pads.
With squeezer set gap at thickness of new pad squeeze then add centre rivet.
