Jill and I flew to Sywell for the 2013 Aero Expo which had the RV as its theme and we celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary at a 4 star hotel. On the Saturday Jill had a relaxing day at the hotel and I talked shop with RV pilots/prospective builders including my old Hawk Unit Test Pilot boss Stu Weatherston who is also going to build an 8 (good man!)
That evening I received a text to say G-JBTR had won the Concours D'Elegance trophy! We didn't even know there was a competition!
The follwing day Aero Expo presented us with the trophy and what a maginficent one it is. A copper wire Spitfire in plan view with a 45 degree mirror at the top that shows the front view - very clever and, I supsect, very expensive! What an honour.
We then flew up to Manchester Barton - bumpy or what! - to stay with one of Jill's school friends Barbara and her husband Dave. One day Dave drove us into the Peak District and we climbed a hill after and before visiting a pub to re-enact a "Last of the Summer Wine" scene. Throughout the week we were blessed with brilliant weather.
