after i got everything drilled, i primed the end pieces so they would look nice. i also primed the counterbalance rods. i messed around with how i wanted to do the dimple on the counter balance weight, but in the long run i just used the countersunk rod under the skin and used a dimple on the outside to get the dimple in there. very easy.
