i did several hours of reading last night and came to the conclusion that any fit issues i have as far as the gap at the front are concerned can be fixed later with a little fiberglass work. with that in mind, i figured that a well centered hinge hole would be a good thing. so i got the frame all fit up and drilled the hinge holes. when i was talking to Joe at Vans, he suggested not drilling the four holes on the hinge to the frame until after everything fits well. so i have not drilled them yet. the frame goes up with not problems now. i have about a 1/16 gap in the middle, but i can fix that easily with fiberglass later. Pat Lee told me that it is very important that there be no catching, as that can lead to a cracked canopy. don't want that, do we.
