Hello Sonex Support,
My name is James Busch and I recently received the Sonex Xenos tail kit (to my knowledge I do not have a plans number) and have been studying the plans and have started to build some of the parts. Below, I have compiled my unresolved questions to date regarding the plans. Each question relates to a specific plan page (indicated in bold underlined text) and part number (indicated in bold).
Plans Page XNS-T06
Parts XNS-T06-09 L & R - Left and Right Hand Clip - Plans state to make this out of 1/8 in thick 2x2" 6061-T6 Al. The part list matches the drawings. However, based on the dimensions of the drawing, the supplied angle stock, and the revision listing on the XNS-T06 sheet, it appears XNS-T06-09 should be made from 1/8 in thick 1.5x1.5" 60601-T6 Al. Is this correct? (If that is correct, it looks like the description of raw materials to use to make -09L&R and -08L&R got swapped originally, and were only partially corrected on the revision history of XNS-T06.) Also, I want to buy extra angle stock. I cannot access the appropriate portions of the Sonex web store. How does Sonex recommend purchasing appropriate extra angle stock? Aircraft Spruce?
Parts XNS-T06-02 L&R, -11, and -12 through 16 - Forward Spars, Root Rib, and Ribs #2-#6 - What is the recommended method of bending to ensure proper bend radius? Is it a forming block with a rubber mallet?
Parts XNS-T06-01 L&R - Rear Stabilator Spars - Where can I purchase extra SNX-Z03-02 50 in long channel stock? I may want to re make these.
Plans Page XNS-T08
Parts XNS-T08-09 - Ruddervator Hinges - What is the recommended method of cutting the piano hinge to length? Band Saw? Snips? Should I keep the hinge together or disassemble first?
Parts XNS-T08-05 L&R - Root Rib Drive Plates - What is the recommended method for bending these parts? Arbor press? No bend radius is provided, just that it should be bent 15 deg
