Brief Description:  Installed the ELT Antenna

Installed the ELT Antenna in the right side passenger armrest. I chose to install it here because I can't install it in the preferred location on the top of the aft section. In this location, the sliding canopy will hit it while it is still partially closed. In this location, the antenna is in the preferrred vertical orientation and exposed to the sky for satellite communications. I believe it will be minimally intrusive upon the passenger in its aftmost location.

The area of contact for the attachment nut was sanded to remove paint so that there is good bare metal contact. This should be sufficient for the ground plane requirements of the antenna.

I secured the whip of the antenna using small plastic clips intowhich I fitted plastic tubes made from small pieces of Ritot and Static nylon tubing to better secure the whip within the clips. The smaller static tubing was cut, slit and wrapped around the antenna. Then the larger pitot tubing was cut, slit and fitted over the static tubing. This was done to insure that the whip remains insulated from the metal fuselage parts.
