Brief Description:  Engine Skipping

The last flight I had was on Veterans' Day. The flight was uneventful. But the next day, the engine started to have a slight skip. While troubleshooting, the engine progressed to a non-start status after a couple of days from the start of the skipping. I followed the advise of many, but in particular, the advice from rv6ejguy. As of this day, the engine is running well. But the road to success was torturous. Often uncovering other weaknesses that needed to be addressed.
The first task that need to be completed was a compression check to check the health of the engine. I didn't need to check the timing magnets for security because I had paid particular attention to epoxying them in place turning my short block exchange. The compression values were great. Next, I needed to check the coils on the Plugs for spark. Not knowing what I needed to test the coils, I bought a Waekon 76562 Coil Over Plug Quick Probe with Variable Sensitivity http://www.amazon.com/Waekon-76562-Quick-Variable-Sensitivity/dp/B0021UPE58 and a Lisle 20700 Coil-on Plug Spark Tester Lisle 20700 Coil-on Plug Spark Tester. The Waekon tester is good for testing the coils while the engine is running. It indicates coil discharge as well as plug discharge. It is a non-quantatative indicator, it shows functioning but not quality. The Lisle tester is what I needed. It was able to show a quantitative, in kV, comparable spark strength from each coil. Good coils were generating strengths in the range of 30-40 kV. With all of the spark plugs removed, the tester was inserted into each coil and the gap between the anode and cathode was adjusted as far as possible from each other to find the maximum spark strength for that coil. The grounding clip was clipped to the engine and the engine was cranked until the spark strength could be determined. One of the coils barely generated any spark. Two other coils were quite weak, generating about half of what the remaining coils were capable of generating. All of the coils were replaced. The replace
