Brief Description: diagnosed and fixed pool heater
Following a bad electrical day in the shop with a good one. The wife and I were going to sit in the hot tub, but I soon noticed that it was not heating. Went out to the heater unit and the display indicated that the rollout switch was open and not heating. I went back in and googled that, then took the multimeter out to the heater and checked continuity on the rollout switch. Clearly it was blown as there ws no continuity. I search amazon and two days later they delivered a new switch and a few minutes later, the new switch was installed, and the heater was working.
The function of the rollout switch is to sense the hot flame or hot exhaust thus shutting down the furnace, so you do not get a fire. I believe the initial problem was likely caused by a buildup of winter leaves in the heater that I did not know had accumulated inside the heater unit. Those were cleaned up before firing up the heater after installing the new switch.
So you see, one day you can't figure out what the heck is going on, and the next day you are an electrical genius.
