Brief Description:  Day 365 - Year 1 is done....477.2 hours

Today, a year ago, I started building this airplane. It has been a good ride so far and I have enjoyed it. There have been ups and downs - mostly "ups" - as well as lots of learning. I have learned many new skills and met many new friends - and I have learned that I can persevere. It's true what they say, "do something every day, no matter how small..." That is really good advice for airplane building - or whatever your dream is... keep at it, don't give up. Of the 5 RV-8 builders that I am "friends" with and keep regular communications with, 4 are still going strong! One seems to have stalled a bit - but I am hoping it is just temporary. (I am pulling for you PC!). One of my other builder friends, is building an RV-14, and lives close by - he and his wife just had their first baby - so he has a really good excuse for delaying his build!

It's funny, but some days I feel like, "the cool guy that's building an airplane in his garage" while other days I must be the "crazy idiot building an airplane..." so it's satisfying to have one year behind me - with the empennage done (except for fiberglass tips) and the wings well on their way to being done. I am about where I thought I would be 1 year into it - and I am thinking that I will order the fuselage kit in February depending on lead times because Feb-April is college baseball season!

It still scares me a bit when I look at other builder's progress and I see a panel full of electronics or an engine hanging off the front - with all that associated plumbing... I wonder how I will ever get "there"? But then I remember that I just have to go work in the shop and keep plugging away and I will get there...
