Brief Description:  Baggage Door – continued, Part 2

After fishing out all of the pieces of the rivet puller from the front cockpit floor it was apparent that the puller did not “break” as much as the adjustment screw had just loosened enough to be forced off and let all the inner workings of the puller fly off in spring loaded / full pull glory.

WARNING – Periodically tighten the top set screw on your rivet puller and aim the back away from your face or other important things. I am truly thankful that “education” only cost me a few extra minutes of time.

So after reassembling the puller and testing it, I climbed back under the panel and we resumed our orchestrated maneuvers to finish pulling the rest of the clecos. I was able to pull all but two of the clecos with the door still strapped in place and I was feeling really good about the door remaining, “flush around the perimeter”! Let’s unstrap this thing and see how good it looks. Well, it held it’s shape and looked great! I was really happy with the way the baggage door turned out especially after knowing that some people were on their 3rd baggage door and wanted to give up! Ok, 7 more pulled rivets on the top and 7 on the bottom and we were home free! Bob and I set those rivets and just for a final celebration to a good long day in the shop, I put the baggage door back in place on the fuselage and basked in the glory of the oh…so……HORRIBLE fit??!? What happened?? It was back to being off! The lower aft part of the baggage door was proud when the upper front was held down and vice versa when the lower aft was held down in proper position. Dang it. Even Teresa came out and was offering help and suggestions. This was not good – but it was getting late and it was time to turn off the light on today’s work session.
