Brief Description: A visit from the technical counselor
Today I was paid a visit by one of the E.A.A. Chapter 168 technical counselors. Michael is an RV-8 builder/flyer working on his second RV-8 and has a few other projects he is also working on - so he is a wealth of information and a good source of best practices, tips and tricks. Michael is also the current president of our chapter (again). The last time he was out to the house, I was working on the empennage so it has been a while. Time flys!
Michael looked over my project and said I was doing a good job. He had some hints on how to run the wires to the aft part of the fuselage without going under the floors. Michael also had a good idea on the trim tab hinge as I had planned to replace the current hinge pin with a longer version that I could bend and attach/safety wire down. Michael explained how I could drill a hole at the end of the hinge circle and safety wire down thru the middle - keeping the hinge from sliding out. The other side is kept in by the elevator skin.
I appreciate Michael coming out and I highly recommend regular tech counselor visits for your project. I know I will be asking Michael to come out sooner next time. He left me with a copy of his "EAA Technical Counselor Visit Report" and under the comments/activity information he wrote : "Airframe 90% complete. Beginning systems install, excellent rivet work. Nicely done."
