Brief Description:  Empennage Attach - Vertical Stab drill

Started off by trimming the bottom of the VS front spar by 9/16"...now, why the front spar couldn't have just been made the correct size to begin with?? Oh well, I made the cut and then clecoed the attach plate and spacer in place and clamped the VS in place and inserted the one cleco in the locating hole.

Measuring from the top of the VS to the outer edge of the HS on each side, I adjsuted the VS until the measurements were the "same"...I couldn't get them the same, but again, got it within 1/16".

Then I had to measure and mark the bottom of the bulkhead/VS for the three attach bolts. Again, not a lot of markings to go off of - as well as the fact that there is a known mistake on the drawings with the callout of one of the dimensons from changed from 1 11/32" to 1 23/32" so using the 1/2 scale drawing and interpolating the correct dimensions and where the holes might come thru on the other side with shared references and the mirror - I was able to first drill the three holes to #30 and then to 1/4" and insert the bolt, washer and nut on each.

Using the angle drill I match drilled the #30 holes in the angle/control stop and the VS spar, then final drilled to #12 and inserted the proper nut, bolt and washer.

Last, I ran fishing line from the center point on the front of the fuse, back around the straight edge clamped to the VS and back around to the front. The fishing line will help me align the VS laterally...but that will have to wait - The Horns are on against Notre Dame... Hook 'em!!
