Brief Description:  Battling the rear seat back rivets

Tonight I did battle with the rivets that go around the perimeter and hold the rear seat back together. These rivets are hard to get to because they are recessed and typically the manufactured head of the AD-470 rivets go on the recessed side as they are on the "pretty" side that people see (other than the fact that the seat back cushion covers them up).

These rivets cannot be squeezed because of the recess and size of the flanges, they can't be bucked "normally" because the sit up against the side support (might be able to use an offset or a longer straight set - but I don't have a longerstraight set). I tried to go back to yesterday's handy dandy back rivet with the cupped head in the vise clamped (avery) bucking bar, but the side wall was too close to get the set straight on the machined head of the rivet.

In the end, I struggled with holding the avery bar sideways as it has two holes to use the cupped die - and back riveting with the other hand. I clamped the seat back in the vise for the third hand - which helped, but it's probably a two man job...as I ended up drilling out quite a few rivets and did not finish all of the rear seat back rivets...after two hours just 25 rivets.
