Brief Description:  Landing gear drill prep

A lot of thinking, figuring, head scratching, measuring and getting ready to drill. Bob and I formulated a plan to get the center of the fuselage by using a variation of what my buddy Jared suggested - which was to run a line from the aft bulkhead center hole to the center firewall hole and drop plumb bobs from those holes to get to a center. We also dropped plumb bobs off the outer axle holes of the gear to get the left to right distance. Using precision measuring and lots of patience, we got the distance down to within 1/16" difference between the two sides (33 1/4" vs. 33 3/16"),

To get the gear perpendicular to the fuselage we measured from a known source of accuracy - the middle of one of the rivets on each side of the front floor and then measured back to the gear. When we got the gear equidistant on each side, Bob had the idea to remark the line at a flat six inches on each side. It would then be easier to measure the fore / aft measurement at 6" going forward. (pic #1)

We did have to take the gear off and shave a bit more off at the gear attach brackets to allow the gear attach brackets to easily slide into the right place. With that done, we put the gear back in its spot, remeasured and re-placed it in the proper place and straped it down for drilling. Tomorrow the plan is to re-measure everything again - make sure it's where we want it - and then drill the gear attach brackets.
