Brief Description:  More riveting of the F-817-L/R-1 seat back support

Remember that mention of “ingenuity”…well, I had a bit of a spark of it and it allowed me to get all but the top holes driven on the seat back support. My “no hole” yoke was long enough that I could slide that thing up in there to squeeze those hard to get rivets. The problem with the no hole yoke is that there is a stiffening bend in the bottom of the seat back support that would be crushed by the squeezer. My first thought was to drill a hole in the no-hole yoke – but that would doom me later on when I needed the “no hole” part…so my next thought was to cut of the pin of one of the squeezer pads and tape/glue it to the no-hole part so as not to damage the curve. I really didn’t want to saw the pin off of either side of those pads or dimple die sets as that was hardened steel. The plan “C” thought was to use some old washers and glue/tape them together. This was going pretty good, but the large steel washers I was using got in the way when I slid them under the part to actually rivet. I liked Plan “C”… right up to the point where it didn’t work…so I fixed what I didn’t like about it with the next iteration. Plan “D” used some 1/8” thick al angle. Since it was aluminum, I could easily cut, grind and smooth it to the needed size and shape. I glued it, as before, with the hot glue gun, and I was able to extend the squeezer enough to squeeze it into place after gluing. I knew the glue wouldn’t last forever and I knew that the aluminum plate wouldn’t either, but I only needed a few rivets squeezed. It worked like a charm! It did pop off once when I caught it on the lightening hole – but I just glued it back up and went to town again. On the last rivet, I noticed that the alum. plate was compressed slightly, so I made sure I put a gauge on each rivet. All Good. The last hole at the top on each row will either be finished with a modified bucking bar as others have done or a blind rivet as others have done…decisions, decisions? I do not recommend you use this method – do so at your own risk!!
