Brief Description:  Fuse stuff – making more tubing

The more I thought about the, “next steps” to working on hanging the gear, I mentally walked thru the steps of what needed to be done first. In order to get a good measurement and center up the gear on the fuse, as alluded to last post, I would need to have both side skins clecoed on. Then my mind began to wander about what needed to happen to make that a reality – well, I decided that I should make sure all of the gussets and other skin related parts were installed so that I didn’t “miss” them when rivet time came. I also thought about the filter-to-pump fuel tubing that needed some flair smoothing/shrinking and I thought that should be done before cleco/rivets…and I should probably replace the tube from pump-to-firewall before cleco/rivets because it has a small nick in it. Then I walked it back further to analyze just why was I waiting for the forward side skins to be riveted. Not having the skins riveted on (just clecoed) could negatively affect my gear measurements and really, I have been putting it off to be able to work on the gear – so, in reality, it’s time to get those forward skins riveted on to the fuse.

Ok, with that settled, I took the file and scotchbrite pad and hand filed/smoothed both of the flairs on the filter-to-pump fuel tubing. If you recall – the smoothness wasn’t the problem, but the flairs were a tad too wide for my liking, so I reduced them to fit better. After that, I made a new pump-to-firewall tube, uh, twice…since I didn’t put all the hardware on before making the last bend. I have one that is probably fine, but I noticed that my bender has a scratch in the channel that slides along the tubing, so I will probably make another one. Such is the life of a homebuilder.

I also final drilled the 7/16" and 1/4" inner landing gear holes thru the WD-813-1. I didn't have a 7/16" drill bit so I checked my dad's tool chest. Of course he had one - and I got to use it on Father's Day...fitting.
